but clearly romney did, i think romney did a superior job of debating it. and so there are a lot of -- you know, we'll be seeing a lot of reviews over the next few days, but i think the key thing for us to watch is no question romney won the debate. the question is, how much does this change things. and i think in terms of national polls, no question, he's going to get a few points out of this. but the harder points and the more relevant points is, number one, you know, does he move ohio, and does he move these swing voters in these swing states because that's what's really relevant here. and i have no idea because, i mean, my view has come to be over the last few weeks that the -- you show me an undecided voter if a swing state like, say, ohio, and they've been bombard by ads since june -- bombarded by ads since june. and that the undecideds there were a lot smaller than nationally, you know, four or five points, something like that. and i had sort of concluded that, well, you know, if you're in ohio and you're still undecided, that you may never decide. but if you look at the pivot that romney has now made, you know, watching that third debate and as romney endorsed the international criminal court, i was waiting for the explosion from the 11th floor here as john bolton went to def con 1. [laughter] but there was nothing. and the fact is, he managed to get conservatives enough in his camp that he could make a pivot endorsing most of obama's foreign policy and doing things like that without losing that base which is really quite striking. and whether he can continue that move is going to be interesting. just two other comments, one on ohio. obama has opened up more field offices in ohio than starbucks has outlets, which is really astonishing. [laughter] and romney has not. the ground game differences are really striking here, and how much difference that makes, you've still got to get voters enthusiastic, and i suspect that the final days that obama's going to be spending as much or more time getting his own voters enthusiastic as he is aiming at those independents. but the early voting has helped. and, henry, there will be early voting i

a third party vote is a vote for obama so you better vote for romney. >> i started off voting for obama and was going to be voting for obama, but after watching this debate i feel like there was more common sense in the first 30 minutes of this debate and there has been the entire main street fiasco. so i would be voting for the independent. i will support kerry johnson. >> i'm between kerry johnson and jill steinberg of the choice to choose rocky then i would probably choose rocky because i like his template that i didn't understand or know him until this debate. >> people that are voting for the third party candidates are just taking away a vote from either democrat or republican. and they're just wasting their time doing it because it will be one of the two in office. >> i've learned more and i've heard -- more of my questions have been answered with a third party. it was really sad though, the democrats or republican party. these guys got the money and the third parties not got a chance to voice your opinion and i wish it was able to sit down with romney and obama and get some these

in fact, we had a debate at the end of 2011 where one of the candidates, romney asked -- pointed out the other guy had been married three times. they have an open discussion of it now. >> host: yeah, that's true. all right. also john kennedy wanted to be on the ticket in 1956, but adlai stevenson threw it open to the convention. he was already saying i'm going to be president. >> guest: yeah. he'd only been senator for three years, he had the terrible back operation in '54, he had the last rights, that's -- last rites, rex skelton, he became a curator, this guy told me in an interview nixon was crying, he was close to kennedy. he really liked him before they went to war with each other. and kennedy wanted to be, he wanted to be president, let's face it. he began to think about that in the '50s, clearly by then, and he wanted to woo stevenson, and he was wooing him, he had knocked off the chairman of the party up there in massachusetts because burke was a mccormack guy. so he gets out to chicago, and all of a sudden like at 11:00 at night stevenson's won the nomination for the second

with immigration, for example, there was a fascinating moment during a republican partial debate late last year during which you had candidates all agree enthusiastically that we need immigration reform, and wolf blitzer kept asking them, what about the border fence? literal hi, they were having this little conversation amongst themselves, and it was completely ignored because, gosh, that doesn't sound like a border fence to we and, of course, mitt romney gave a speech oriented around facilitating family unification. so this is treated as an utterly marginal issue, yet you have more skilled immigration than you do less skilled, and also you have more representation from asia than you do from latin america. that doesn't necessarily mean any kind of sea change, and certainly mitt romney's not faring terribly well with asian-american voters. it is also true that the asian debate is framed by some of us, so i think that's important to keep in mind particularly as that foreign-born population continues to change. i guess i see these questions a little more differently in that i see her gen

but what they did, look at the presidential debates. governor perry, my governor, who had lots of problems but was for the dream act and was for a reasonable position on immigration, and romney moved to his right, and perry had other problems, too, but certainly his more progressive views on immigration hurt him inside the republican party. and now some of the republicans are threatening to sue the president about his decision on the dream act. my attitude is bring it on, let 'em sue. i think that's wonderful. it'll just drive the point home that the republicans are on the wrong side on an issue that is widely popular inside the hispanic community. now, did the president push hard enough early on? you can debate that. the house, democratic house did pass the dream act. it was filibustered by republicans in the senate. but i think what -- all the body language that the republicans send to the hispanic community, all that has been wrong, and they have, they have blown the opportunities because hispanic voters are cull churlly conservative
